Starting July 27, 2018 it will be possible to get a vanity plate in Quebec, Canada . But that’s not the good news.

Actually, it’s not good news at all because I’m not a fan of vanity plates.

The good news is that we will have the right to choose a message in any language. We won’t be restricted only to French language plates. The SAAQ, our automotive licensing agency, has determined that Quebec’s language charter doesn’t apply to license plates because they are personal, not commercial, communications.

Me too, I think they’re unnecessary. There are so many vanity plates in New England, especially New Hampshire, that you could make a travel game out of counting the non-vanity plates. They’re so rare!

A friend of mine is from Quebec and she shares consensus that the laws are stupide.

I think license plates should be painted white with the letters on black and be left alone, nothing else unless it’s a police car or some sort of temp plate. seeking individuality in a space designed to be homogeneous across many cars to me seems unnecessary. Plus, if you want to spice up you car you always have stickers or license plate holders... like mine has.

Yeah, I dunno... there are a lot of ways, some rather clever I'll admit , that will likely create some ome less-than-tasteful results.

I get the feeling we have a higher douchebag ratio here than in the rest of North America.

exactly. we used to be better at this because printing images was expensive. but since the price has gone down, it’s easier to get a lot of shit unto a single 300*150mm slab of aluminium.
